Roots & Ramble — Feathers and All the Real Stuff
Hi, I'm so glad you're here.
I'm a 40-year-old woman building something slow and intentional in Idaho — a life that feels like it actually meanssomething. I moved here chasing a homesteading dream that's still very much in progress (currently in escrow and living on hope, which honestly feels very on-brand). I'm building life with my boyfriend and his 4 kids, tending to seven hens and my absolute favorite guy — Pillow, my rooster, who I raised in my bathroom and who holds a permanent piece of my heart. And then there's Brontë, my incredible dog who somehow also seems to brighten everywhere she goes. Yes, really. Follow her adventures at @Oregontail.
This blog is going to be honest. That means the golden mornings where everything feels right, and the hard weeks where it doesn't. The daily rhythms of critter care, the monthly grind of building something from scratch, the yearly markers of how far we've come. I want to share the whole arc — because I believe deeply that a life fully felt, even the heavy parts, is a life worth living.
When I'm not digging a hole, elbow-deep in chicken bedding, or reading something that wrecks me in the best way, I'm paddleboarding, camping, doing Toastmasters, or traveling when the stars align. I want this space to become something bigger than just my story — a place to pause, a little community, a reminder that nature heals and that being intentional with ordinary days is its own kind of radical act.
I want to bring good into the world everywhere I go. Not the tidy, curated kind — the real, muddy, complicated, beautiful kind.
So stick around. The rooster crows early, the coffee is strong, and there's always something happening out in the yard.
Let's build something here together. 🐓🌿
